Itineraries

Day 1

FLY ADDIS - BAHIRDAR (~ 1 hr.)

Today you will fly to Bahir Dar. Upon your arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. After a little refreshment, you will take a boat cruise on Lake Tana to visit the 14th century Monastery of Ura Kidane Mihret which is the most famous of the Zege peninsula monasteries with a very beautiful painted maqdas and a priceless collection of crosses as well as crowns.

Later on, you will drive to the village of Tis Isat to see the Blue Nile falls (please be informed that due to the newly constructed electric dam in the vicinity the water level of the falls could be very minimal).

Day 2

DRIVE BAHIR DAR – GONDAR (~180 Km & ~ 3:30 hrs.)

Early morning you will set out to drive to Gondar: also known as the “Camelot of Africa”: it is a town founded in 1636 by the great Emperor Fassiladas. Set in a landscape of incomparable beauty, it was once the Royal Capital of Ethiopia. Visit the Castles and Churches built by Emperor Fassiladas (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and his descendants.
Later proceed to the fascinating Debre Birhan Selassie Church whose walls and ceilings are decorated with scenes of Biblical lore and medieval history.

Day 3

FLY GONDAR – LALIBELA

Your visit in Lalibela is said to be a great experience in life. Lalibela is the jewel crown of Ethiopia, home to some of the most famous churches and the scene of so many major religious ceremonies. The churches are carved below ground level and ringed by trenches and courtyards and are arguably Ethiopia's top most attraction. They are connected to each other by a tangled maze of tunnels and passages.
Among the churches you will visit are Bete Amanuel a 36-foot-high monolith considered by art historians to be the finest and most precisely worked church in Lalibela, possibly because it was the private church of the royal family, Bete Markorios a cave church originally used for secular purposes and thought to be around 1,400 years old and Bete Giorgis: the most majestic and best preserved of all Lalibela's churches.

Day 4

FLY LALIBELA – ADDIS (~ 1:00 hr.)

This morning you will be sightseeing around the town of Lalibela, be fascinated with the table top mountains surrounding it and the traditional huts “tukuls” scattered every here and there. Later on, you will drive to the airport to embark on the flight back to Addis. Upon your arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
